Astrological Update for end May, June 2006
Soli-Lunar Astrology for Gemini New Moon

In this column, we follow the transits of the planets beginning with the New Moon.
There are 13 or 14 New Moons in a year, not 12, so there will be the same number of these columns as we follow a soul based, feeling oriented, and more natural calendar regarding our earthly cycles (not oriented toward the archaic and awkward calendar that has confused things since the Romans imposed it on this world long ago).

Transits for 5/26-6/25

We begin with a New Moon in Gemini, which is the sign of communication, education, people, and ideas. It’s also a sign of contradiction, so we can expect contradictory behaviors, decisions, and communications in the coming month. Mercury will be in Gemini (but not conjunct Sun or Moon) and it will also square Uranus. This implies the potential for unpredictable scattering of energy that is akin to herding cats, and plans that are made during this time will be highly idealist and innovative, but fluffy in outcome and perhaps bearing little fruit. In my last column, I mentioned the powerful potential for profound change that would move thru during mid-May. So, if you didn’t initiate during that time, it may become harder to focus and carry thru at this time (especially if strong in Virgo or Pisces, i.e., Sun. Moon. Rising). If you were born under the Gemini influence (or other air signs) this flutter-by energy could seem like a breath of fresh summer air, full of ideas and potential, and some of us thrive on that! There is not much support for the earth signs here, at least until Venus enters Taurus on May 30th, then a greater commitment and beauty can ensue. In fact, as this lunation describes so much variety, a survey of all of our greatest hits and some of our fears will be passing in front of our eyes for us to let go of or address. But Venus in Taurus in combination with this "diffuse cornucopia" can give direction thru social life, pleasures, and beauty. Take advantage of this early and often.
As this month is such a mixed bag of aspects with little focus early on, the expression and energy will be different for each individual, and hard to describe in a comprehensive manner that will ring true for us all. There are a few coalescing aspects coming up in June that are decisive and describable. As Venus transits thru Taurus 5/30-6/24, it moves into alignment with Jupiter and Saturn (conjunct) Mars, forming a T square, which is usually stressful for most. Jupiter is retrograde in Scorpio having to do with an abundance of transformation, emotion, and strong life passages. This journey of Jupiter's is year long. Saturn in Leo has the potentially confusing contradiction of serious commitment and fun and sometimes can constrict the joy of this sign. Mars joins Saturn in Leo on 6/2, and these are in conjunction or similar position in the middle of the month. This can be excellent for providing motivation and drive toward pleasure, love, and identifying your own desires in order to take action.
While this can be a positive force toward accomplishment, Venus and Jupiter both pull on this, along with the Moon at various points, as well as Neptune later in July. Since Jupiter has to do with abundance and Venus with pleasure, beauty, finance, it is easy to go overboard, over-indulge, over spend, or scatter energy thru either determination or indulgence. For those who don’t desire drama in their personal lives, I advise a more conservative approach without fixed expectations. To the rest of us, the contradictions found in the fixed polarity of this time will certainly gives us a lot to be dramatic about. Certainly, do not try to stop the mountain from moving, the flood from occurring, or your lover from leaving thru sheer determination as this is where the conflict arises. For those of us who enjoy the Chinese paradigm of “may be good, May be bad” choices and results, we can have the times of our lives. Beyond this, the effects will be very individualized with lots of stories to unfold. May we live in interesting times!
The retrograde of Jupiter will slow to a stop July, so whatever is undone in June is redone and integrated in the hot summer sun.
The dust settles only after the Summer Solstice (Wed. 6/21 5:46 am pdt), which is also the last few days of the Moon cycle. This implies introversion and souls searching 6/21-5 even as the summer sun is stimulating in joyful communion- again in contrast. In fact, the solstice day is one in which the Moon aligns again into a T-square with Jupiter and Saturn. Many of the emotional aspects brought up by the cacophony of contradictory planetary voices will be resolved during the next lunation, so stay tuned.
Also of note is the retrograde of Uranus and Neptune. Retrogrades are the apparent backward motions of planets as seen from Earth. The outer planets do this for 5 months out of the year, and stationary or not moving for a few weeks on either side of that. The stationary times are more significant than the retrogrades are, as a laser beam is to light.
Neptune begins its yearly retrograde 5/23,implying more of what was stated at the beginning of this column regarding great ideas dissolving into committees, discussion groups, and frustrating action. Similarly, Uranus retrograde beginning 6/19 could dissolve and diffuse the group vision into many diverse and divergent pathways. For some, this can also provided serendipitous openings. These are not dire aspects, but they do have the potential for “following thru with the plan”, whatever it was.
Speaking of diffusion, there are endless aspects to describe for the coming month, but again each individual will experience them differently. Clear intention helps.

Astrology works on many levels and we can peel back the layers to revel ever-deeper aspects of ourselves and the truth of our being. If you would like to have a deeper reading of how these and other planetary transits affect you, contact me, Mark S. McNutt, for a personal reading.
Astrological Update for May 2006
(Soli Lunar New Moon in Taurus beginning April 27th)

The dance of the planets continues! Even when we deny or ignore their influences, we find that our magnetism and watery bodies continue to draw influences from our immediate environment and the subtle influences of the cosmos beyond. The microcosm of our selves reflects the macrocosm.
As this eclipse month ends, a little known fault near Salem OR gives a shudder as if to say, ”Yes!” even Gaia, the world Spirit herself, is aware of the alignment of Sun and Moon.
The new moon defines the area of focus for the month, which then unfolds in potential for the first two weeks and then releases that potential (as defined by the full moon) over the following two weeks. All the while, the other 8 planets continue in their spiral dance to unfold our personal and planetary journey.
This new moon begins 4/27 at 12:44 pm PDT (West Coast US time) with Sun and Moon in Taurus. Taurus has to do with the Earth and Her resources, physical plane, body awareness, material goods, land, wealth, and all that is tangible and measurable, as well as the artistic and beautiful. It is no coincidence that the ancients observed the connection between this earth sign and the joy of the Earth’s creation through flowers and growth of all that is green.
Energy radiates from the middle of the fixed signs outward. That is, midseason is the embodiment of the season. Spring, is described best by Beltane (the good time) and the flowing propagation of the Earth, than the firey newness of Aries. Summer, is described best by the midseason fires of Leo and Lammas in August than by the watery homebody sign of Cancer. Fall is described best by the intense and watery mystery of Scorpio and Samhain than by the balance of airy Libra. Winter begins with Capricorn but the airy potential of Aquarius and Imbolc speaks of the return of light, social life, and the rekindling new ideas.
So, this Taurean mid-season time, is the time for planting and being with nature, and especially for being true to our natures! The more we embrace what is natural for our body and being during this time, the more we manifest what is natural and healthy for us. Be aware of the abundance concerning our physical bodies and the environment, acquisition of goods and structures, the planting and the cultivation of gardens, and the magickal connection with nature. Garden, build, go for walks, and spend as much time as possible at the ultimate website...TheNaturalWorld.net.
The full moon on 5/13 will bring forth a tidal wave of emotions and intense passions to a peak that is very powerful for moving energy; Jupiter and Uranus add to this. Ground yourself and ride the wave, trusting your emotions and knowing that your mission will have tangible results in May and beyond.
Beginning the evening of 5/20, the Sun will move into the airy sign Gemini, bringing intellect and fanciful wings for networking the new ideas that are born of the strong roots available now. The plant is only as strong as its’ roots, so focus before 5/20 on growing and nourishing whatever those roots are. Otherwise, those plants (that is, your ideas and strategy) may become top heavy from too much talk and not enough walk. Don't let your focus dissipate and dry out, water your emotions heavily in mid month.
Jupiter and Uranus are in the water signs of Scorpio and Pisces respectively, and are in trine, a favorable aspect, all month. This is excellent for new ideas and friendships, and creativity coming out of the blue with mostly positive and highly predictable results. We can expect old friends to arrive or contact us over the airwaves from far away places. As well, we can expect extended generosity to unexpectedly be returned. Karma is its’ own reward or dilemma, as we reap what we sow in a surprising manner.
Spontaneous travel is highly encouraged, as are serendipitous changes of plan. Endeavor to do, think or plan something that is original. It’s time, in the second half of month, to climb out of the box of self-limiting choices! The dreaminess of Neptune in Aquarius further encourages this, even as it slows down to begin its’ yearly retrograde (5/23). This implies "Get going!" on your new activities before 5/20, as the end of the month is best used for herding all of the cats that you’ve spontaneously decided to take on. The end of the month energy is very mental and diffused, but air signs love that playing field.
Mars in Cancer denotes aggressive nurturing of home and family situations, and feelings which suddenly come to the forefront, especially under that time of the “visible full moon” in mid month, which dissolves into more mental and social juggling around 5/20. A great shift occurs from 5/12-20. Be flexible and creative. Explore your feelings and the mind will follow.
Expect love and relations to be impulsive and immediate but not necessarily lasting. Even as you are building new bridges, exploring deep feelings and attachments, and feeling out what you value most, it changes again with the next lunation at the end of the month; so remember what grounds and roots you and return there.
We present this column every lunation or new moon, as a service and by popular request.
Astrology works on many, many levels and we can peel back the layers to revel ever-deeper aspects of ourselves and the truth of our being. If you would like to have a more in-depth reading of how these and other planetary transits affect you, contact me, Mark S. McNutt, for a personal reading.
I know that humans have great potential and we have the physical means/technology to live in a much more balanced, sustainable manner with the the universe, but we don't?? What's up with that?? I clearly see so many of the unsustainable threads of Western industrial culture, and wonder why it is not glaringly obvious to everyone that we better get our house in order if we want to survive as a species.... and we have the information and physical means to do it, that's what drives me crazy........ we could be so much more efficient with our human and natural resources..... but we seem to be hell bent on destroying our environment and the threads of community that connect all humans..... I know we have grand potential, When will humanity mature into that potential......

"... Cusp of the Ages (Now)

We can expect to witness unprecedented changes of epochal proportions, and events of a magnitude unimaginable by most people. We cannot doubt that our experiences of his ‘interface’ transitional period will be intense, extreme, powerful (both positive and negative) on all levels, because the real global crisis is one of consciousness and ideology.”
– Moira Timms, Beyond Prophecies and Predictions

When the Earth progresses into a new age, there is a precipitation of incoming energies, causing significant variations in terrestrial occurrences. We can expect strange weather patterns, an increase in earthquake activity, and natural disasters unseen on this planet for thousands of years. The possibility of an asteroid hitting the earth is not out of the question.

We are on the threshold of a new era, but the birth of the Age of Aquarius will be attendant with toil and pain. All the prophets and Messengers of Light warn of cataclysmic Earth changes and an immense global catastrophe heralding the advance into Aquarius.

Of course, the ending of one age is also the beginning of a new one, but we should not expect overnight transformations. The supposed ‘dawning of the Age of Aquarius’ in the 60s, like all false dawns, quickly fizzled out. The belief we entered Aquarius and are now in a new era of universal love, peace and brotherhood, is a delusion suffered by many adherents of the ‘New Age’. The grave mistake of believing on a certain date the Earth, along with all humanity, will be automatically transformed to a new level, is a serious misinterpretation of astrological cycles.

However, humanity can expect a new revelation of the divine wisdom, and once the proverbial dust has settled, a new era. Like in the turbulent days of the Essenes, small groups of people are rejecting the dying old age and separating from the world to form underground networks. In touch with the divine wisdom of the ages, the task of this remnant is to survive the coming destruction and establish a New Society, with a truly Aquarian consciousness.

As David Fideler in Jesus Christ: Sun of God explains:

During such periods of cultural renaissance and renewal, a spiritual impulse is released into the world of human affairs. Those visionaries who have long been watching the horizon detect the first rays of light; they are the first to detect the soothing breath of spring’s first breeze, announcing the promise of a new season...

Age of Aquarius (Approx. 2050 – 4210)

Uranus, ruler of Aquarius, is to be the primary planetary influence for the next 2000 years. What do the vibrations of this planet and its sign indicate?

Aquarius is designated as the sign of “the realm of the organisation and projection of social ambitions and ideals.” Leo, its polarity, is involved with the same sphere of influence but carries out its role in a highly personalised manner. Leo is concerned with the preservation of the one, while Aquarius is preoccupied with the needs and interrelationships of the many.

As an air sign, Aquarius pertains to the mental realms. It formulates ideas from the watery inspirations of Pisces and then proceeds to organise the concepts upon which a new civilisation is to be based. It also provides much of the technology and foresight enabling humanity to plan ahead for the future.

While Aquarius is ruled by Uranus, it is also influenced by Saturn. Saturn is the planet of limitations and represents the grounding force, the need for form, and the channelling of energies into prescribed paths for specific purposes.

Air is the element of the new age and this makes communication and inventiveness two of the most outstanding characteristics of the Aquarian period. The use of electricity, the car, telephone, television, Internet and space exploration – are all related to Aquarius. The advent of psychology and proliferation of ‘New Age’ beliefs have displaced the power of the Church. Religious practices have left the aspects of Earth [Taurus], Fire [Aries], Water [Pisces], and began to turn mental or psychic in essence.

The many UFOs sighted in the last half of this century are aerial phenomena. Carl Jung saw the UFO experience as a symptom of the end of an age. Jung contended that during these periods the psychic changes upon the population as a whole invoked a variety of occurrences like mysterious objects in the sky and apparitions. Jung predicted a transition between Pisces and Aquarius full of violent transformations and harmful effects to the collective psyche. This violence, Jung contended, made for “changes in the constellation of psychic dominants.”

Aquarius is often depicted as a youth with an urn of water placed upon his shoulders. This symbolism often confuses people into thinking Aquarius is a watery sign, but water, in this representation, is symbolic of an even deeper concept. The Water Bearer signifies man is created from the ‘waters’ of life. Water is seen as the stream of universal consciousness, inspiration, and intuition.

The Aquarian Water Bearer, illustrated by its star configuration, pours forth its contents, and conjures up the picture of a vast flow of dynamic spiritual energy spiralling into the ‘fish’ of the closing Age of Pisces.

The great changes being wrought by the rays of Aquarius are dramatically increasing man’s capacity for thinking, but not necessarily understanding or wisdom. Witness the last few decades and the availability of colossal amounts of information. An inability to discriminate, combined with acute naivety, mires transitional humanity in complex illusory traps. In time, the study of the relationships between teachings to find their similarities will bring wisdom and the unification of ideas.

Aquarius as an air sign stimulates the mental bodies of humanity towards brotherhood and the integration of knowledge. We can expect the energy generated by baser worldly desires to be transmuted to a search for gnosis or Soul-Wisdom. The new age will be one of synthesis and cooperation between individuals and groups.

We can assist the transition from the Piscean Age by cooperating with the Divine Plan or we can vainly try to impede the process. Unless our minds are receptive to the ideas of the Aquarian Age there is no avenue for these ideas to reach the Earth.

Dynamic and Destructive Energy of Uranus

Even at this early stage in our transition to Aquarius, the dynamic energy of Uranus is greatly affecting humanity. However, mankind is not ready to tap into these more highly developed powers. In order to properly handle this “increased voltage,” the proper physical, mental, and spiritual vehicles will gradually develop in the Age of Aquarius. You cannot send 500 volts through a conductor capable of handling only 100.

There are increasing numbers of people capable of responding to the rays of Uranus. While still in the minority, they will steadily increase. The first (or grosser) vibrations of Uranus are destructive. Uranus is known as the great ‘destroyer of forms’, but this destruction is only in order that a better form may come into being.

Uranus acts suddenly. It is unconventional, forceful, and often violent in its manner of expression. Instead of the slower processes of reason (Mercury), Uranus acts through bolts of lightning, illuminating one’s mental horizon with great power. Uranus is called the planet of invention and revolution. Invention, because it gives great flashes of light that give birth to creative innovations. Revolution, because it tends to overthrow preconceived or conventional notions with its directness, originality, and intuitive perspective. One of its primary effects is to create a feeling of independence and individuality.

The Dark Side of Aquarius

Our examination would not be complete without a warning about the darker potentials of the Aquarian Age, which is often ignored or denied by its proponents who equate it with the re-emergence of the ‘Golden Age’. (The distinction is the subject of a separate article but, in short, the ‘Golden Age’ occurred at one time on Earth, in the very distant past.)

On this subject, John Hogue in his book The Millennium Book of Prophecy, says the “Aquarian is a blind idealist, optimistic about the future – at all costs. The adherents of New Age thinking glibly encourage this misplaced idealism in others: ‘Don’t give the negative any energy and it won’t happen.’”

Aquarius rules the urge to impersonalise, which might herald a more tolerant mankind that takes and perceives aggression less personally. But used unconsciously, the same potential for impersonalisation could see people lose their souls to a dictatorship of the computer. Hogue adds the authorities of the coming age might, “fashion psycho-weapons out of the Aquarian element of atmosphere and mood... and you may not even feel the repression.”

This scenario is best envisioned by George Orwell’s 1984, in which the Big Brother state dominates and controls every aspect of citizen life. The Aquarian citizen might be seduced into believing the propaganda and even support a corporate police state in which every one is happy because of genetic engineering and virtual reality.

Another characteristic of Aquarius is its icy-cold, distant, critical side. The idealistic part of Aquarius has it loving humanity. But in the personal sense – the human sense – there is a feeling of revulsion for the soft, vulnerable and imperfect natures of actual people.

End of the Current World Order

Reviewing recent events and those over the past century, the forces of destruction are self-evident. These destructive forces can be expected to greatly increase in the coming years. Negative forces are extremely potent at the dawning of a new age, fearing, as it were, the loss of their privileged positions. They sow seeds of confusion, disarray and havoc, attempting to trick humanity into accepting the old age in new forms. The web of social, political and economic control is tightening on a global scale. Evil forces are entrapping people in a subtle world of consumerism, fantasy, escapism, and delusion which destroys lives.

We are entering the initial phase of a time of ‘strong delusions’ and ‘global deception’. All the evil forces and powers of the lower astral worlds are bursting barriers that had hitherto restrained them. Consequently ‘good’ will be called ‘evil’ and ‘evil’ hailed as ‘good’. Negative entities will manifest themselves before humans as aliens, extraterrestrials and ‘angels’. To find a parallel for such a time of false spirituality one must go back to the closing periods of the great Atlantean epoch.

Make no mistake, humanity is given a choice. By clinging to the old age consciousness and falling under the demonic delusions of false spirituality, the majority are doomed and will perish. Nothing we can do will stem this flood of evil that has already passed beyond control.

Remnant

Nevertheless there is a mission, and that mission is to save the remnant. How is this to be done? A Message of Warning and Awakening must be declared. Those who escape the coming onslaught will accept that declaration. They shall be drawn to it by “spiritual affinity” and will find deliverance. By calling humanity to awaken and separate themselves from the delusions, traps and attachments of the world, the remnant is preparing a way of escape. A modern day ‘Noah’s Ark’. A new community of men and women who have left the old Age behind and are linking their consciousness with the impulses of the Age of Aquarius.

This message of awakening to a new way, a new life, a new consciousness, and ultimately a new age, must be publicly declared. This Work of Awakening and separation is spiritual – not mental and argumentative. If people do not recognise it as Truth intuitively, explanations are wasted. The genuine new age calls for the new Method – the Aquarian Work for the Aquarian Consciousness.

We live in a time unique in the history of the world – a time pregnant with opportunity in proportion to its difficulty, danger and distress. Let us go forward undismayed. Let us proclaim the authentic New Age for those with eyes to see and ears to hear. Our future is in our hands.

The Sign of the Man stands on the horizon.

"...Aquarius Ascendant

How unique and original Aquarius rising natives come across! These individuals are just that -- individuals, and they won't let you forget that fact. Often turned to for advice, these natives possess intellectual poise and savvy. They often are curious, and quite learned, in both science and metaphysics--anything that involves advancement of the human race holds much appeal.

It's hard to shock an Aquarius rising. They've seen it all, or at least want you to think they have. In fact, they often enjoy shocking others. Not that they are flamboyant by nature, but they do like to, albeit quietly, get a rise out of others. Some natives born with Aquarius on their Ascendant can be quietly provocative and irreverent.

Most people with this Ascendant are quite friendly and likable. Their personality quirks generally go over quite well with others. They generally give others quite a bit of freedom--accepting, as a rule, people from all walks of life as equals. And, their somewhat cool and detached curiosity about all that goes on around them appeals to most.

Curiously, Aquarius rising people can be a little standoffish while also coming across as humanitarian and kind.

Often labeled as independent and original children, Aquarius rising natives often feel a little "different" or "special" throughout life. They often feel like they are on the outside looking in, and their ability to observe and deduce is often uncanny. They're also adept at getting things to work, even when the parts that make up the whole seem like a puzzle with unusual pieces--especially when it comes to groups of people. This sets them apart as managers and team leaders.

The Ascendant often reveals physical mannerisms and even choice of dress, as it shows how people present themselves to the world. With Aquarius here, natives sometimes have a quirkiness to their manner, and some dress in a slightly offbeat manner--not enough to make them stand out like a sore thumb, but just enough to express their original temperament.

Because these people seem so open to new ideas, it may be surprising when you encounter their decidedly stubborn streak. Aquarius is a fixed sign, after all. The ascendant sign shows how individuals react to new situations, and with Aquarius rising, there can be a resistance to change that seems to belie the native's generally progressive nature. There's a distinct inflexibility with Aquarian rising people, and, sometimes, a tendency to want to force their opinions on others.

With their eye to the future of mankind as a whole, some people born with an Aquarius Ascendant overlook the more personal needs of the people closest to them. They are often attracted to partners who possess self-confidence and ardor.

Celebrity examples of Aquarius rising are Matt Damon and Michael J. Fox. ..."

Aquarius Rising

Aquarius Rising gives you a detached, intellectual outlook, combined with considerable mental poise. You stay cool under pressure and take sudden shocks or unexpected changes in your stride. An interest, not to say a fascination with the bizarre and unusual can lead you down some rather interesting pathways. Status, power, and wealth are of marginal value, for you are interested in people for their own sake, not the social trappings which accompany them. Friendships are easily made and not so easily broken, for your air of easygoing familiarity and pleasant demeanour is rather attractive.

Ruled by Uranus (lord of reversals and unexpected upheavals) and Saturn, lord of karma (purification and restriction), your personality can be changeable, yet deeply focused and quite original in approach. Most likely your life will undergo one or more dramatic changes of direction, often through some twist of fate or circumstances over which you have no control. Changes can occur suddenly and unexpectedly, for though Saturn's influence implies a calm and stable disposition, Uranus often reacts in quite unexpected ways.

Unpredictable and independent, you can be argumentative and love to play devil's advocate. You need your personal freedom, so when you marry or form partnerships you should choose your partners with care, since you are quite unable to put up with possessiveness and over-dependence. You enjoy physical and mental stimulation and, my dears, whilst you are keenly interested in the future and are fascinated by the past (especially the offbeat, little-known areas), you somehow lose track of what's going on in the present. Ahead of your time, others may perceive you as out of step with the rest of society.

Your strong physique and reserves of stamina, combined with your notorious stubbornness makes it difficult to break undesirable habits and behaviour patterns. Your independence is legendary and, of course, you do tend to be somewhat opinionated, especially in matters that have stimulated your interest in the offbeat. Others stand little chance of changing your ideas, for you must become convinced on your own account that such changes are necessary. You probably like science, sociology, music and design, while your pursuit of hidden things and unusual research can lead you to an interest in astrology and other arcane matters. You are good with money, which tends to come your way unexpectedly, yet appropriately to your lifestyle. You are subject to nervous conditions, problems with the lower legs, ankles and stiffness or inflexibility of the bones and joints.
